Njavarakizhi Treatment

Njavarakizhi is a therapeutic Ayurvedic treatment that involves massaging the body with small linen bundles filled with a mixture of Navara rice, milk, and herbs. This treatment has been practiced in India for centuries and is renowned for its rejuvenating and healing properties. We provide njavarakizhi treatment that is unique to each individual and the person body type(dosha), only after identifying the underlying factors in the ailment. Njavarakizhi treatment is a deeply invigorating massage that involves fomentation of the body with a bolus of cooked rice.
Njavara is a particular kind of rice known for its nutritional and therapeutic value. A generous amount of medicated oil is applied to the whole body and then the body is massaged with small cotton boluses. These boluses are dipped in this regenerating mixture of cow’s milk and a brewed herbal decoction.

After the massage, all the linen bags are opened out and remaining pudding is taken and applied to the body of the patient and rubbed by the hands. After 5 minutes, the paste is wiped off with palm leaf scrapers followed by the application of warm medicated oil helps to balance any potential Vata aggravation caused by the cooling effect of the Navara rice. Finally, the warm bath further aids in the relaxation of muscles and promotes overall rejuvenation, leaving the patient feeling refreshed and revitalized. This post-treatment care regimen ensures that the benefits of Navarakizhi are fully realized and that the patient experiences lasting effects from the therapy.
